A specification that is easy to price is a specification that gets built. When an enquiry arrives with the right information, quoting is faster and fewer decisions are left to be improvised on site.
Start with the areas. A schedule that lists each room, its approximate area and whether the surface is a floor or a wall gives an immediate picture of the scope, and makes it possible to discuss alternatives sensibly.
Add the intent. Knowing that a surface is for a hotel corridor, a private bathroom or a retail entrance changes the recommendation, even when the visual reference is the same.
Include the programme. Delivery windows, phasing and the date the site expects material are as important to a workable quotation as the selection itself.
Finally, confirm the technical requirements that apply to the project. Where a specification calls for defined performance criteria, these should be stated so that the correct documentation can be provided with the response.
